Kenya Open champions Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) amassed 23 points to win the third leg of the National Boxing League in Vihiga over the weekend.
Coming second were the record Kenyan champions, Kenya Police, who only managed a paltry 12 points, to confirm their challenges earlier expressed by head coach James Wasao.
"We are heading to Vihiga but we have serious challenges in the team but I'll do with the number of boxers in my contingent," Wasao had earlier told Standard Sports.
Interestingly, Africa light middleweight champion Boniface Mogunde missed the event to confirm the policemen's fears.
The events in Vihiga have given the soldiers a chance to win the league title without much fight, but team manager Ben Maingi is very cautious on their chances of wrestling the diadem.
"We are very keen on this title, and we are taking a step at a time without underrating any team on our way to the title," he said.
KDF has widened the overall gap between them and the policemen with 23 points to be perched at the table standings with 72 points.
