Despite mounting pressure on State officials to desist from active politics, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has vowed to defy the directive and campaign for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The CS said he has no intention of abandoning his loyalty to the party and will use his influence to ensure ODM candidates win various seats in elections next year.
While some argue that Cabinet Secretaries should advance the agenda of the appointing authority, in this case President William Ruto’s development and re-election plans, others contend that they should steer clear of partisan politics.

Several members of the Cabinet, particularly those appointed after serving as elected leaders, including Mr Mbadi, his Health counterpart Aden Duale, Hassan Joho (Blue Economy), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy) and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives), have maintained their political profiles.
Mr Mbadi said he intends to devote his weekends to politics, with a particular focus on ODM.
“All the weekends, Saturday and Sunday, are my free days. I will use the days to engage in politics, more particularly ODM politics,” the CS said.
He described ODM as the only party that has remained relevant over the past two decades, even as other political formations that emerged more recently have collapsed.
