Little Friends School, Naivasha, won in three English Elocution categories on Day Four of the 98th Kenya National Music Festival at Kibabii University, Bungoma County.
For the second consecutive year, the school impressed adjudicators with three original pieces scripted by Casmir Obiero, each carrying a strong educational message while entertaining audiences with creativity and humour.
Their English Choral Verse “Tasty Treats” (Class 2041 HB), sponsored by Farmers Choice, opened the winning run. The playful poem follows children distracted by snacks hidden in their pockets moments before taking to the stage — a comic premise that celebrates their honesty, spontaneity and curiosity.
The recurring plea to “pray for us” turns an ordinary craving into a mock-serious dilemma, drawing laughter while underscoring the innocence of young learners. References to sausages, smokies, burgers and crispy chicken become symbols of comfort and reward.
Next came “Mr Custodian,” winner in a category sponsored by the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner (ODPC), to sensitise audiences on safeguarding personal data in the digital age.
Through the fictional character of Mr Custodian, the piece highlights the dangers of collecting excessive personal information and mishandling confidential records, showing how breaches can lead to cyberbullying, identity theft, online harassment and misuse of artificial intelligence.
It introduces audiences to provisions of Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019, urging data handlers to uphold confidentiality and accountability.
Little Friends completed the sweep with “Our Dearest Darling,” sponsored by the Communications Authority of Kenya. The lively piece celebrates technology as a learning companion while promoting responsible internet use.
