Police in Murang’a are investigating the mysterious deaths of a couple at a lodging in Mukuyu town, hours after they checked in following a night of partying in several bars.
The bodies of Mr Morgan Mwangi, 37, and Ms Carol Maina were discovered at Thenge-ini Lodgings on Friday August 7, about two kilometres from Murang’a town along the Murang’a-Kenol road.
According to Ms Teresiah Njogu, who said she had sold to the couple beer at a nearby bar, the woman was heard telling the man to rent a room because she was afraid to go to his house.

“Her exact words were: ‘Today I don’t feel like going to your house. I am afraid. Take a room in this town where I can scream and get help if you decide to kill me,’” she said.
Ms Njogu said the man laughed and assured her that he loved her and would take the room to make her feel at peace.
“I wish we took the matter seriously. But the way they were conversing sounded like usual banter for alcoholics. Little did I know this was a premonition she had about her death... I feel guilty. I feel as if there is something I did not do after I heard the woman express such fear. But I will make peace with my God. It is well. May they rest in peace,” she said.
According to a police incident report, the couple had last been seen leaving a bar in Mukuyu town, walking hand in hand towards the lodgings.
