Air accident investigation teams from the United States and France have joined Kenyan investigators probing the helicopter crash that killed seven people at Mt Ololokwe, Samburu County, on Wednesday.
Kenya's Aircraft Accident Investigation Department (AAID) is leading the investigation in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).
According to AAID Director Fred Kabunge, the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) sent an expert from the Office of Transportation Disaster Assistance due to the death of American citizens.”
The site where a helicopter ferrying tourists crashed at Mt Ololokwe in Samburu East on August 19, 2026. Seven people died.
On the other hand, France's Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) “appointed an Accredited Representative supported by a team of technical advisers since the aircraft and engine were designed and manufactured in France.
“The NTSB has a special interest in the accident under ICAO Annex 13. The expert is entitled to access relevant factual information approved for public release, updates on the progress of the investigation and a copy of the final report. The expert may also assist with matters involving affected US families and victim-related assistance,” Mr Kabunge told Nation.
