Police have been allowed by a Mavoko law court to detain for 14 days two suspects, among them an advocate arrested over the murder of top mental health doctor Dr Victoria Mutiso six days ago.
Allowing the detention of the two, the magistrate said the police had presented cogent reasons to warrant the detention of Ms Angella Mulwa and Mr Nelson Masiga Makaralu.
The court observed that among the issues being probed by police in the killing of Dr Mutiso are invasion and demolition of her Sh1.5billion property and theft of high-end vehicles from the compound in Mlolongo, Athi River, Machakos County.
The detention of Ms Mulwa and Mr Makaralu brings to four those detained over the July 29, 2026 shooting of Dr Mutiso.
Others who have been detained include Rose Mbithe Mulwa, 75 and her son Chris Mulwa. Angella and Chris, both advocates of the High Court, are siblings.
Ms Mbithe was earlier married to renowned psychiatrist Prof David Musyimi Ndetei before they divorced in 2001 and he married Dr Mutiso.
“I have analyzed the evidence presented by the police and prosecuting counsel and find that they have presented reasonable grounds as the matter in question is of great public interest,” the magistrate ruled.
The court observed that the killing of Dr Mutiso has raised great public interest and anxiety.
