Equity Group has posted a record KSh 45.5 Bn profit after tax in the first half of 2026, up 32% year on year, as faster revenue growth, improving asset quality and stronger regional subsidiaries lifted earnings across the group.

  • Profit before tax rose 39% to KSh 57.8 Bn, while total income increased 25% to KSh 124.9 Bn.
  • Subsidiaries outside Kenya contributed 42% of banking profit after tax, 47% of banking revenue, 54% of loans and 52% of banking assets.
  • The performance extended a sharp earnings recovery from the pandemic-era trough.

Equity’s first-half profit after tax has risen from about KSh 9.1 Bn in 2020 to KSh 17.9 Bn in 2021, KSh 24.4 Bn in 2022, KSh 26.3 Bn in 2023, KSh 29.6 Bn in 2024 and KSh 34.6 Bn in 2025 before reaching the latest record. The latest acceleration was supported by both funded and non-funded income rather than a single earnings line.

Net interest income grew 17% to KSh 69.3 Bn, while non-funded income rose faster, climbing 36% to KSh 55.6 Bn.

Non-funded income now accounts for 44.5% of total income, up from 40.8% a year earlier, bringing the group closer to an even split between interest and non-interest revenue streams.

The balance sheet also returned to faster expansion. Total assets increased 20% to KSh 2.16 Tn, customer deposits rose 21% to KSh 1.59 Tn, and net loans grew 19% to KSh 981 Bn. The loan book had contracted to about KSh 791 Bn in the first half of 2024 from KSh 817 Bn a year earlier before recovering to KSh 825 Bn in 2025 and accelerating in 2026.
